Pakistan walks out during Netanyahu’s speech at UNGA

Netanyahu's speech at UNGA

NEW YORK: After Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was invited for a speech. However, the Pakistani delegation led by PM Shehbaz rose from seats and walked out of the assembly hall to express solidarity with the people of Palestine.

As Prime Minister Sharif concluded his speech and returned to his seat, the Israeli prime minister was invited to the podium. The Pakistani delegation, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, walked out of the session in protest.

During the three-day-long United Nations General Assembly session, world leaders have condemned the ongoing Israeli brutality in Palestine and called for an immediate end to Israeli atrocities.

Pakistan became the only country that formally registered its protest by walking out of the session before Netanyahu took the podium.

Earlier in his speech, PM Shehbaz demanded an end to Israel’s “systematic slaughter” and “bloodshed” in Gaza.

While addressing the 79th session of the UNGA in New York, he also condemned Israel’s atrocities in Palestine.

The premier questioned whether the world can afford to remain silent while children are buried beneath the rubble of their destroyed homes. He asked “if we can truly turn a blind eye to the mothers holding the lifeless bodies of their children.”
