Pakistan welcomes progress on Gaza Peace Plan, reaffirms support for Palestinian state

WEB DESK: Pakistan on Saturday welcomed the positive developments towards implementing the Gaza peace plan, calling it an important step towards restoring peace and stability in the region.

In a statement, a Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan appreciated the mediation efforts of the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye in advancing the peace initiative.

The spokesperson expressed hope that all commitments under the Gaza peace plan would be fully implemented.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding stance on Palestine, the spokesperson said Islamabad remained committed to the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

Pakistan also reiterated its support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Gaza Peace Plan hinges on Israel’s agreement

US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced what he described as a “historic” agreement aimed at beginning the phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, though questions remain over Israel’s backing of the proposal and whether Hamas will ultimately surrender its weapons.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said negotiations in Cairo involving mediators and Hamas representatives had resulted in an agreement under which Hamas would disarm in stages.

“Today, the Board of Peace reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” Trump wrote, calling the development “a monumental step toward lasting peace and security.”

He said the proposed arrangement would pave the way for a new Palestinian administration to govern Gaza in coordination with the Board of Peace, while addressing Israel’s security concerns by preventing the territory from being used for future attacks.
