Pakistani students defeat Indian panel in Oxford Union Debate

WEB DESK: An Oxford Union debate between Pakistani and Indian student teams ended in a decisive win for Pakistan after India fielded a lower-profile replacement panel, following the withdrawal of its original high-level delegation.

According to organisers, India’s primary, high-profile team pulled out shortly before the event, prompting Indian representatives to send a secondary panel instead. In response, Pakistan opted to bring in Pakistani students currently studying at Oxford to ensure a balanced and competitive debate.

The Pakistani team, comprising Musa Hiraj, Israr Khan Kakar and Ahmad Nawaz Khan, went head-to-head with the Indian panel at the historic debating society. Attendees said the Pakistani students outperformed their opponents with stronger reasoning, clearer arguments and more persuasive delivery.

During the final vote, the audience backed Pakistan’s stance by a two-thirds majority, marking a convincing victory.

Organisers noted that despite fielding a second-tier panel, India was unable to counter the arguments presented by the Pakistani students.

The result drew praise from Pakistani attendees and observers, who described it as a significant moment of academic and intellectual representation on an international platform.
