Pakistanis consume tea worth over Rs31b in two months

FAISALABAD: Tea, often regarded as Pakistan’s national drink, has seen an astounding surge in consumption, with the nation having consumed tea worth over Rs31 billion in just two months.
According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), during the initial two months of the current fiscal year, Pakistani citizens consumed tea valued at over Rs31 billion.
Official documents reveal that imports of tea during July and August in the current fiscal year amounted to Rs31 billion and Rs640 million. In comparison, during the same period last year, the nation consumed tea worth Rs30 billion. This year, tea imports have surged by Rs11 billion, with August 2023 alone witnessing imports of tea worth Rs15 billion and Rs910 million.
In contrast, during August 2022, Pakistan imported tea valued at Rs10 billion and 290 million rupees.
These figures illustrate the enduring love for tea in Pakistan and the substantial growth in consumption in recent times. INP
