Pakistan’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 qualification chances dim

LAHORE: Any hopes of Pakistan women’s team directly qualifying for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 in India next year have been dashed following their series loss against England.

Pakistan women’s team now face the prospect of competing in the qualifying round for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

With the completion of all matches in the ICC Women’s Championship, Pakistan Women’s team accumulated 17 points from 24 matches. However, for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the top six teams from the one-day international (ODI) championship secure direct qualification. Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa have already qualified based on points, while India qualifies as the host nation.

Despite Pakistan’s current standing in the top six with 17 points, the upcoming series between West Indies and Sri Lanka will decide the Pakistan women’s team fate. Both Sri Lanka and West Indies have 14 points each.

The outcome of their series could potentially see one of them surpass Pakistan’s points tally. In the event of favourable results for either team, Pakistan would be displaced from the top six.

Should the upcoming matches be affected by rain, Sri Lanka and West Indies could still accumulate enough points to overtake Pakistan.

Sri Lanka is also scheduled to play a series against Ireland in August, while West Indies have a series against Bangladesh following their fixtures against Sri Lanka.
