Pakistan’s participation in T20 World Cup: authorities contemplate plan B

PCB T20 World Cup

ISLAMABAD: The question of whether Pakistan will participate in the ICCT T20 World Cup remains unresolved, with a final decision expected soon. Sources indicate that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif this evening to discuss the matter, after which a formal announcement is likely.

In the event Pakistan decides not to participate, a contingency plan, or “Plan B,” has reportedly been prepared. Under this proposal, the Pakistan Shaheens and U-19 teams could be divided into four teams to compete in a domestic tournament in Lahore, ensuring players still get competitive exposure.

If Pakistan opts to participate, the official kit unveiling ceremony for the national team, which has been postponed amid the uncertainty, will take place afterward.

FORMER INDIAN CAPTAIN WEIGHS IN

The looming Pakistan-India clash on February 15 in Colombo has also drawn attention from the Indian dugout. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev, when asked about the match in light of current political tensions, said that it is not appropriate for former players to comment and that such sensitive decisions should be left to the authorities.

“I will support whatever decision is made by the relevant authorities,” he added, stressing the need to avoid unnecessary statements.

As of now, fans and officials alike await the PCB’s final decision, which will determine Pakistan’s involvement in cricket’s marquee T20 tournament this year.
