Pakistan’s weekly inflation soars further

ISLAMABAD: In a week marked by economic challenges, Pakistan recorded a notable rise in inflation, with prices of essential commodities experiencing a 0.96% increase on a weekly basis, according to the latest report released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
On an annual basis, inflation has surged by a staggering 26.32%, leaving consumers grappling with rising costs across the board.
The report highlights specific items that have seen significant price fluctuations within the past week. Tomatoes, a kitchen staple, saw an alarming 17% increase in prices, while lentils witnessed a 10.8% hike. Sugar prices rose by 6.7%, garlic by 4.6%, jaggery by 3.6%, and moong beans by 3.5%.
Weekly inflation rises by 0.78 per cent
Additionally, in the past week, onions saw a 3.4% price increase, chickpeas rose by 3.2%, diesel prices spiked by 6.2%, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) by 5.1%, and both petrol and chicken prices saw a 5.1% increase. Conversely, cooking oil prices dropped by 1% for a 5-liter container.
The report underscores the economic challenges facing consumers as they grapple with the rising cost of living.
It reflects a situation where prices continue to climb for numerous goods, making it harder for households to make ends meet.
