Park vehicles indoors, NDMA advises ahead of pre-monsoon rain, storm

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday issued a weather advisory warning of potential rain and windstorms in parts of the country from Saturday, June 20 to 23.

According to the advisory, rain is expected in upper and central regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also experience strong winds, thunderstorms, and rain during this period.

“A westerly wave, along with moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, is expected to affect Pakistan, causing pre-monsoon rainfall in the upper and central parts of the country,” the advisory states.

The NDMA cautioned that strong winds and storms could damage weak structures, trees, and mud walls. It urged citizens to stay away from electric poles, billboards, and unstable walls during storms and to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement.

Motorists have been advised to park vehicles in sheltered or safe locations, while residents in storm-prone areas are urged to remain alert and take precautionary measures.

Visibility may be reduced during storms, increasing the risk of traffic accidents, the NDMA warned. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and stay informed through official weather updates.

RAIN IN ISLAMABAD, UPPER PUNJAB

According to NDMA, Scattered rain and windstorm is expected in Pothohar region and upper Punjab including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, and surrounding areas from 20th to 23rd June with occasional gaps.

Similarly, NDMA forecasted dust storms/isolated showers for Zhob, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar and surrounding areas of Balochistan from 20th to 23rd June.

During these four days, dust storms/windstorms are also expected in Jacobabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana and surrounding areas of Sindh.

NDMA advisory also contained good news for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting isolated rain/ windstorm for Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, Swat, Waziristan, and surrounding areas from 20th to 23rd June.
