ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Islamabad to Paris turned violent when a passenger physically assaulted a female crew member after being stopped from smoking on-board.
According to the PIA spokesperson, the incident took place on flight PK-749, where the passenger attempted to smoke despite repeated warnings from the cabin crew that smoking is strictly prohibited during the flight.
When a PIA female flight attendant intervened and asked him to stop, the passenger not only ignored her instructions but also became aggressive. He reportedly twisted her arm and punched her in the back, injuring her in the process.

The situation escalated as the passenger also tried to attack the flight steward and the captain. However, they managed to subdue him and confiscated the cigarette.
In line with protocol, the captain informed French authorities mid-flight. Upon landing in Paris, the passenger was taken into custody by local police.
PIA spokesperson confirmed that statements from the crew were recorded, a medical examination of the injured staff was conducted, and a formal police report was filed.
“The laws in France regarding such incidents are strict, and we expect no leniency in this case,” said the spokesperson, adding that the passenger has been permanently blacklisted by the airline and will no longer be allowed to travel on any PIA flight.
“Our cabin crew acted professionally in the line of duty. The matter is now in the hands of the law,” the spokesperson added.
