PCB ends Mohammad Wasim’s tenure

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the end of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure as head coach of the national women’s cricket team.

According to a PCB statement, Wasim’s term as head coach has concluded, and the process of appointing a new head coach is currently under way. The board said the announcement regarding his replacement will be made later.

Mohammad Wasim was appointed head coach in 2024, but under his supervision, the team’s performance consistently plummeted.

Sources said that despite full backing from the PCB, the women team’s performance remained disappointing, as Pakistan failed to win even a single match at the 2025 Women’s World Cup.

Pakistan’s campaign in the 2025 World Cup also remained highly disappointing. Under the captaincy of Fatima Sana, the team finished seventh, securing only three points.

Pakistan suffered heavy defeats against Bangladesh, India, Australia, and South Africa, while matches against England and Sri Lanka were washed out due to rain.

Although Wasim himself was a batsman, the women’s team’s batting became its weakest department under his tenure. His temperament was reportedly abrasive, and he failed to maintain good relations with the batting and bowling coaches as well as several players.

As head coach, Wasim was also involved in team selection and made support staff appointments of his own choosing, yet results remained abysmal.

Sources further said that the women’s team also saw a continued decline in its bowling line, while fielding failed to show any improvement.
