LAHORE: In a move aimed at filling the stands for the ongoing Test match between Pakistan and England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made entry free for fans in select enclosures on the third and fourth days of the Multan Test.
The decision comes in response to visibly disinterested crowds during the first two days of play, with many empty seats in the first-class and general enclosures.
The PCB’s statement announced the free admission as an effort to draw in more spectators, a clear reaction to the lack of enthusiasm from local fans.
The PCB made the announcement through a social media post, stating that “FREE entry to First-Class and General enclosures on Days 3 & 4 of the first Test at Multan Cricket Stadium!”

Earlier, former England captain and commentator Mike Atherton didn’t hold back his disappointment on air, noting the glaring absence of spectators. “It looks like there are more security personnel than fans in the stadium,” he remarked during day two commentary.
This low turnout has reignited concerns about the declining popularity of Test cricket in the region. With Pakistan and England facing off in what should be a marquee series, the empty stands have led to questions over the future of the longest format of the game in a country with such a rich cricketing history.
