PCB to part ways with head coach Muhammad Wasim after women’s team struggles

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to renew Muhammad Wasim’s contract as head coach of the Pakistan women’s cricket team, following a string of disappointing performances.

Wasim, who took over the reins in 2024, failed to lift the team’s fortunes during his tenure. Reports indicate that despite full support from the board, the side struggled to deliver in key tournaments, including a winless campaign in the Women’s World Cup.

Sources suggest that several players had raised concerns about a lack of focus on training under Wasim. While an expert batter himself, his coaching tenure saw the batting line-up emerge as the team’s weakest link, and tensions reportedly arose between him and the bowling and batting coaches.

Wasim also played a central role in team selection and support staff appointments, yet the overall performance, particularly in bowling and fielding, continued to decline.

Media reports indicate that the PCB is set to announce a new head coach next week as it seeks to rebuild the women’s team ahead of upcoming international competitions.
