PCB reshuffles selection committee after disappointing T20 WC campaign

PCB selection committee

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a revamped selection committee for the national men’s cricket team following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to officials, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed have been added to the national selection committee as part of the restructuring process.

The board has also decided to retain former Test cricketers Aaqib Javed and Asad Shafiq as members of the panel.

In another significant development, Sarfaraz Ahmed has also been appointed as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team, adding to his responsibilities within the new setup.

The changes come shortly after former international umpire Aleem Dar stepped down from the selection committee two days ago.

FALLOUT FROM T20 WORLD CUP STRUGGLES

The reshuffle follows Pakistan’s abysmal campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where the team failed to make a meaningful impact. The poor results sparked widespread criticism from fans and former players, with many calling for structural changes in team management and selection policies.

PCB officials believe the inclusion of experienced former captains and players in the selection committee will help strengthen decision-making and improve the team’s performance across formats.

The board is expected to rely on the new committee to rebuild the squad and prepare Pakistan for upcoming international assignments, with a focus on restoring consistency and competitiveness in global tournaments.
