PCB says Tony Hemming resigns as chief curator

LAHORE: Tony Hemming has resigned from his position as chief curator after nearly one-year of service, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Saturday.

Tony Hemming was appointed as the new head curator on a two-year contract on July 15, 2024.

The Western Australian was entrusted with preparing pitches for the five ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh (two in August/September 2024) and England (three in October 2024).

Hemming also oversaw pitch preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan hosted from 19 February to 9 March.

His resignation came amidst reports in the Bangladeshi media that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to reappoint Tony Hemming as chief curator.

On Friday, The Daily Star reported that the BCB is in discussions with Hemming about his return to the board as head of turf management.

It reported from BCB officials that negotiations between the board and Hemming are “going on.”

Hemming had planned to visit BCB yesterday (Friday), but it’s unclear whether he actually went.

He has worked at various iconic cricket grounds in Australia, including Melbourne, Perth and Tasmania, as well as in countries such as Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where he was the ICC’s Head Curator from 2007 to 2017 in Dubai.

During his time with the ICC, Tony Hemming also oversaw pitch preparation at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which was one of Pakistan’s home venues between 2009 and 2019.
