Jingle bells: echoes of Merry Christmas across nation

ISLAMABAD: People across Pakistan wished each other “Merry Christmas” as the day marks the marks the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25.
The holiday is embraced with enthusiasm by the Christian community, which, despite being a minority, plays a significant role in the country’s cultural landscape.

The celebrations reflect a blend of religious observance and community spirit, with participation of people from all faiths.
In the country’s largest city, Karachi, Christmas festivities were highlighted by prayer services at the over 104 churches located in the city.
The churches were adorned with a Christmas tree decorated with lights and ornaments, symbolising the joy of the season.
Surrounding neighbourhoods were filled with festive decorations, creating a vibrant atmosphere that captured the essence of the festive holiday.
Similarly in Lahore, the city known for its historical significance, also celebrated Christmas with fervour. Churches across the city featured elaborately decorated Christmas trees.
The Christian community, predominantly Catholics, engaged in various activates, including shopping at Christmas bazaars, where vendors offer discounts on a range of goods.
In the capital, Christmas celebrations took place on a more formal tone, with the government officials wishing those celebrating the occasion.
Federal Minister for Commerce attended a Christmas ceremony, where he cut a cake and distributed gifts to the Christian employees.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, ceremonies included prayers for national peace and security.
The hill-station of Murree attracts many Christian tourists during the Christmas season, with events held at different venues, including the St Denys Girls’ College and the historic Holy Trinity Church.
Both the Prime Minister and the President, extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community, focusing on the themes of love, unity and the protection of the rights of all religious communities.
Several independent and private organisations also took the iterative to organise events that distributed gifts Christian families.
