LAHORE: After Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) order of suspending Pervez Elahi’s detention under 3MPO, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has also issued notices of contempt of court against those responsible for arresting Elahi despite the court’s orders.
During the hearing of the case pertaining to Pervez Elahi’s recovery and the issue of contempt of court, the Lahore High Court issued show cause notices to several key individuals, including the Superintendent of Attock Jail, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Attock, and the Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi, all held accountable for the alleged contempt of court.
Just yesterday, the LHC had ordered the presentation of Pervez Elahi in person before the court, further emphasizing the urgency of the situation. In response to the LHC’s inquiries, the Sessions Judge of Attock revealed that Pervez Elahi had been kept in Islamabad, with the Police Lines being designated as a sub-jail for his detention.
In a bid to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Elahi’s arrest and subsequent detention, the Lahore High Court summoned several high-ranking officials, including Islamabad police officials, a representative from the Attorney General’s Office, the CPO of Rawalpindi, and the DPO of Attock. However, their failure to appear before the court prompted the LHC to issue contempt of court notices.
In a subsequent development, the Lahore High Court has ordered Pervez Elahi to personally appear before the court tomorrow.
