Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has launched a large-scale cleanliness operation in Peshawar ahead of Eidul Azha to ensure the safe disposal of animal waste and maintain sanitation across the city.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by Shahab Ali Shah, who distributed gifts among sanitation workers and environmentally friendly waste-disposal bags among residents.

Speaking at the event, the chief secretary announced that the three districts showing the best sanitation performance during Eid would receive special awards. He also declared an additional month’s salary for sanitation staff participating in the operation.

According to Shahab Ali Shah, nearly 4,000 sanitation workers have been deployed for the Eid operation, while 16 collection points have been established across 42 union councils for the disposal of animal remains.

He said around 800 vehicles were being used to collect sacrificial waste and transport it for safe disposal. Authorities have also arranged lime, chlorine, disinfectant sprays and insecticides to maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of disease during the Eid holidays.

The chief secretary added that fumigation and spraying activities were being carried out throughout the city every morning and evening as part of preventive health measures.

Residents have also been provided with special waste bags to help ensure the safe and organised disposal of animal remains during Eidul Azha celebrations.
