Peshawar witnesses uptick in violence and assault cases

Peshawar: Peshawar has witnessed an unprecedented surge in murder, attempted murder, robbery and assault cases during the first five months of the current year.
According to a police report, available with Hum News, 232 people were killed in the first five months — a 136 per cent increase — in the same period during the previous year.
According to the report, 360 cases of attempted murder were reported in the city during the same period.
Meanwhile, 224 individuals were wounded in various incidents during the last five months. The city also experienced a staggering 202 per cent rise in cases of robbery, with 79 incidents reported this year.
The city also witnessed a surge in sexual assault cases with 29 cases reported during the first five months of the year.
Interestingly, a slight decrease was witnessed in abduction cases with 22 cases registered so far this year compared to 36 in the same period last year.
Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Ashfaq Anwar confessed the rise in crimes and terrorist activities. He sought more CCTV cameras in Peshawar to help combat the menace.
Anwar said that these cameras would help police improve investigation and combat the crime.
