Peshawar Zalmi clinches nail-biting win against Islamabad United

LAHORE: In a thrilling encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Peshawar Zalmi clinched a nail-biting victory against Islamabad United by a mere 8 runs in the 13th match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 9.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan invited Peshawar Zalmi to set the target. The Zalmi batsmen responded with a formidable performance, posting a challenging total of 201 runs for the loss of 5 wickets within the stipulated 20 overs.

Leading from the front, Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, showcased an exceptional display of batting prowess, remaining unbeaten with a stunning 111 runs off 63 deliveries. His innings included 14 boundaries and two sixes, steering his team to a commanding position.

Contributions from Saqib Mahmood (38 runs) and Paul Walter (19 runs) further bolstered Zalmi’s total, ensuring a daunting target for Islamabad United.

In pursuit of the target, Islamabad United displayed resilience but fell short by 8 runs, managing to reach 193 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted overs.

For Islamabad United, Shadab Khan shone with the ball, claiming 2 crucial wickets, while Agha Salman and Naseem Shah provided valuable breakthroughs with 1 wicket each.
