Petrol, diesel prices rise as dealers remain divided over nationwide protest

WEB DESK: The federal government on Wednesday night announced another hike in petroleum prices, as disruptions to global maritime trade raised concerns over fuel supplies due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest surge in petrol per-litre price gained an increase of Rs6.39, bringing it to Rs327.12. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel was also increased, raising it by Rs7.83 per litre to set it at Rs375.04 per litre.

The new prices will come into effect from midnight tonight and will remain applicable for July 23, according to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) today (Wednesday).

The federal government has announced that it petrolem prices will be updated every day, owing to international trading issues.

Earlier in the evening, the Petrol Pump Dealers Association called off their countrywide protest after Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik sought a period of two weeks from the group to meet their demands. Hamayun Khan, in an interview with HUM News, said their group remained committed to holding the protest, claiming that the government was unwilling to address their concerns.
