WEB DESK: The Peshawar High Court has imposed a ban on unrelated gatherings, including political meetings, within the premises of government offices and educational institutions.
A five-page written verdict was issued by Justice Sahibzada Asadullah, emphasising that such assemblies violate the sanctity of official institutions. The court ruled that the responsibility for the use of government facilities lies with the respective officers, who must ensure that these spaces are not exploited for political or unrelated purposes.
“Government and educational institutions exist for specific functions, and unrelated gatherings compromise their dignity and purpose,” the judgment stated. Authorities have been directed to prevent political and other unauthorized meetings within institutional premises.
The court highlighted that organizing assemblies in these areas amounts to a breach of Article 4 of the Constitution, which protects citizens’ rights against violations.
The petitioner’s counsel noted that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, illegal gatherings have continuously disrupted official work and educational activities. The verdict is expected to reinforce the proper use of government and academic spaces, ensuring they serve their intended administrative and educational functions without interference.
