PHC disposes off ‘ineffective’ contempt petition against ECP

PESHAWAR: In a recent development at the Peshawar High Court (PHC), a contempt petition against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was disposed of as ineffective. The decision came following a hearing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s request, presided over by a two-member bench led by Justice Atiq Shah.

The contempt petition had been filed against the ECP, alleging violations and misconduct during the electoral process, primarily on not publishing the symbol allotment of bat to PTI after PHC’s earlier ruling in this regard.

However, after a thorough examination of the case, the court deemed the petition ineffective, leading to its dismissal.

The court emphasised the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring transparency. However, in the absence of concrete evidence supporting the allegations, the petition was deemed ineffective, and the contempt charges against the ECP were also dismissed.
