PHEC to merge education boards across Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has finalised the consolidation of nine education boards across the province into a single unified board.

According to the sources, the comprehensive report by the department has been formally submitted to the Punjab government.

Meanwhile, the decision has stirred opposition from the employees working in various education boards within Punjab. They said that if the the government approves the plan, all district boards will lose their autonomy.

The sources said that the employees urged the relevant authorities to reconsider the decision and withdraw the plan to establish a unified Punjab Board.

PHEC to unleash stream of new subjects

Earlier, the PHEC announced to introduce a new array of subjects “Group of Professionals” in matriculation and intermediate levels.

According to the media reports, the students pursuing Pre-Engineering, Pre-medical, Intermediate of Commerce (ICOM) and Intermediate of Computer Sciences (ICS) will now have the opportunity to enroll in the newly introduced group “Professional” within science and arts streams.

The education authorities will embark on recruiting new faculty with expertise in the proposed subjects.
