ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif awarded on Thursday a Rs10 million prize to nurse Razia Noreen for her bravery and efforts to save a newborn during the devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The August 26 fire at PIMS claimed the lives of 14 newborns, turning the hospital into a scene of grief and panic for families and healthcare workers.

Appreciating Noreen’s courage, the prime minister said the nation needed courageous women like her who risked their own safety to save the life of the infant.

During her meeting with the prime minister, Noreen said she would dedicate the award to all PIMS staff members who made their utmost efforts during and after the hospital fire.

She also pledged to continue performing her duties with the same dedication.

Shehbaz also announced that Noreen would be awarded the Tamgha-e-Khidmat at the Pakistan Day ceremony on March 23 in recognition of her bravery during the PIMS fire.
