ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Amir Muqam on Sunday described the planned protest movement after 90 days to get the PTI founder released an attempt to save the Gandapur government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as he reacted to the latest statement made by the chief minister.
The comments came as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to hold Senate polls on July 21, with the opposition eyeing a larger share in the 11 seats on offer given the reserved seats judgment. There are rumours that at some of the PTI lawmakers will vote against the party line.
At the same time, the opposition is now openly talking about the possibility of bringing a no-confidence motion against the chief minister.
In a statement, Amir Muqam, who is also the PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president, said those who had always shied away from talks were also again clamouring about dialogue.
He was referring to the press conference in Lahore where Gandapur said they were still ready for dialogue [with the powerful circles only] and the protest movement would be parallel to the negotiations.
During the press conference, Gandapur had admitted making efforts for the release of Imran Khan, the incarcerated PTI founder, but complained that the “other side” was trying to ensure the issue lingered.
When asked, he clarified that the 90-day deadline was himself and the party only. “We will decide after the 90-days whether to do politics and something else.”
A DIVIDED HOUSE
On the other hand, all is not well in the PTI, with the party leaders questioning the 90-day deadline and the proposed protest movement.
Aliya Hamza, the PTI Punjab chief organizer is one of them, who said how, why and from where the 90-deadline plan had appeared instead of the August 5 protest.
She was referring to the earlier understanding that the PTI will start showing its street power from August 5 to press their demands.
In this connection, Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran, had even suggested that the two sons of the PTI founder to join the protest, after Rana Sanaullah warned about the possible consequences.

POWERLESS CM
Meanwhile, Amir Muqam also said that Gandapur was himself a powerless chief minister.
It was an obvious reference to the group which is considered close to Imran, especially PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Junaid Akbar who had earlier replaced Gandapur as the party’s face in the province.
MAY 9
At the same time, the federal minister claimed that the much-hyped protest movement had already flopped even before its formal launch. “Those responsible for the May 9 violence are now planning to start a protest movement.”
The 90-day deadline itself is an admission of defeat, he remarked and added that the PTI was not in a position to launch any protest as the people had already rejected them.
Earlier in the day, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari in similar comments had remarked that Gandapur’s announcement was actually a “90-day leave” declaration.
