ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Shaheen Chowk underpass in Islamabad.

Addressing the foundation-laying ceremony, he said that the completion of development projects in the federal capital will provide convenience to citizens and promote a positive image of Pakistan internationally.

Federal ministers, members of parliament, local notables of Islamabad and officials from the Ministry of Interior and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) were present on the occasion.

The prime minister said that the construction of another underpass would help ease traffic congestion on major roads of the capital, ensuring smoother vehicle movement.

Appreciating the efforts of the interior minister and his team for the swift progress of development projects, Shehbaz said steps were being taken to beautify the city.

He said that the timely completion of these projects would help project a positive image of Islamabad and Pakistan during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be held in the federal capital.

The prime minister said all projects would be completed in the best national interest. He was also briefed on the details of the project before laying its foundation stone.

At the same time, Pakistan Television shared footage of the ceremony on its X account, featuring the prime minister’s complete speech in Urdu along with visuals of officials briefing him on the project.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the new underpass would help reduce traffic pressure on Margalla Road.

He said that work on Eleventh Avenue was also being launched soon, with more major projects to follow, including the construction of the Kashmir Chowk underpass.

Naqvi said the city was being beautified and upgraded to international standards in view of the upcoming SCO conference, promising that Islamabad would be transformed into one of the most modern and beautiful cities within a year.
