WEB DESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured the people of Gilgit-Baltistan of the federal government’s continued focus on the region’s development, describing its progress as among the top national priorities.

Addressing elected representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan, the prime minister highlighted the region’s unwavering loyalty and commitment to Pakistan’s national unity.

“The people of Gilgit-Baltistan have always demonstrated their love for Pakistan, loyalty, and commitment to national unity through their actions,” he said, according to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

He emphasised that the representatives provide direct insight into public expectations and concerns. The government, he added, is placing special focus on improving infrastructure, communications, energy, education, healthcare, tourism, and employment opportunities.

Resource utilisation and youth empowerment

The prime minister stated that Gilgit-Baltistan’s natural resources, tourist attractions, and mineral reserves would be harnessed to strengthen the local economy. Particular attention is being given to equipping young people with quality education, modern technical training, and dignified employment so they can contribute meaningfully to national development.

He announced that four Daanish Schools in the region are in the final stages of construction, with classes expected to commence next year. Work is also progressing rapidly on a 100-megawatt solar power project.

The prime minister directed that all available resources be utilised to ensure the timely completion of ongoing development projects. He stressed the importance of effective coordination between federal and local leadership for better governance, transparency, and resolution of public issues.

The prime minister welcomed suggestions and recommendations from the representatives and expressed confidence that collective efforts would lead Gilgit-Baltistan to new milestones of development, prosperity, and sustainable stability.

He directed the formation of a committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, to review practical proposals presented by the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly members and submit a report. The committee includes Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, and Rana Sanaullah.
