WEB DESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed on a pivotal four-day diplomatic mission to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, as Pakistan seeks to solidify strategic ties and navigate a complex regional security landscape.
The tour, running from 15 to 18 April 2026, comes at a critical juncture following Islamabad’s role in hosting recent, albeit inconclusive, peace talks between the United States and Iran.
The prime minister will hold meetings with the leadership of both countries to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional peace and security, officials said on Wednesday.
During the visits, the prime minister is expected to review ongoing cooperation with the two Gulf nations and exchange views on regional stability, according to official sources.
Separately, the prime minister will also travel to Turkey to attend the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
During the forum, he will participate in a “leaders’ panel” alongside other global leaders to present Pakistan’s perspective on key international and regional issues.
On the sidelines of the event, bilateral meetings are expected with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other senior world leaders, officials said.
The prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
The visit is widely seen as a “diplomatic blitz” aimed at securing both economic stability and a reinforced role for Pakistan as a regional mediator.
Strengthening the ‘Brotherly’ Bonds
The first legs of the journey in Riyadh and Doha are framed within a strictly bilateral context. In Saudi Arabia, Sharif is expected to finalise significant economic arrangements.
Reports from the Finance Ministry indicate that Riyadh has pledged an additional $3b in deposits to bolster Pakistan’s foreign reserves, alongside an extension of an existing $5b facility.
Discussions with the Saudi and Qatari leadership will focus on deepening investment cooperation and addressing the volatile security situation in the Middle East.
With both Gulf nations having felt the tremors of recent regional escalations, Islamabad aims to present a unified front on maritime security and energy stability.
Global Engagement in Antalya
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to Türkiye, where he is scheduled to participate in the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Sharif will join a prestigious Leaders’ Panel to articulate Pakistan’s perspective on multilateralism and the current shift in global power dynamics.
On the sidelines of the forum, a high-profile meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is anticipated. The two leaders are expected to review the progress of the Pakistan-Türkiye Strategic Economic Framework.
This visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to “constructive diplomacy” at a time when the international community remains on edge over the fragile ceasefire in the Persian Gulf.
