PM Sharif, Field marshal Asim Munir review mediation efforts ahead of Islamabad talks

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reviewed Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at securing sustainable peace in the region during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, according to an official statement.

“Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad,” the statement said.

The two leaders reviewed progress in Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between parties (US-Iran) and expressed satisfaction over the de-escalation achieved so far.

They stressed the importance of maintaining peace and upholding the ceasefire, urging all sides to exercise restraint. The leadership also appreciated the restraint shown by all parties and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to provide full support in reaching a peaceful, negotiated settlement.

Sharif lauded the commitment of the parties involved in the process and expressed hope for its success. He also renewed Pakistan’s invitation to the arriving delegations, assuring them of the highest level of facilitation and support.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator for dialogue amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote regional stability.
