PM Shehbaz announces 55 electric vehicles for Islamabad traffic police

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced 55 Electric Vehicles (EVs) to be provided to the Islamabad Traffic Police.

The environmentally friendly EVs were announced during a ceremony held in the Islamabad today.

During the ceremony, the prime minister was briefed by IG Islamabad on the initiative aimed at modernizing the city’s traffic management.

The project of 55 vehicles began a few months ago and sees these vehicles deployed on key city roads to improve traffic flow. 15 of these vehicles have already been handed over to them, while the remaining vehicles to join the fleet soon, according to the reports.

Each fully charged EV can cover 350 to 400 kilometers, with fast charging taking 60 to 90 minutes and standard charging 6 to 8 hours.

Compared to petrol vehicles, each EV is expected to save Rs550,000 per month, recovering its purchase cost within 13 to 14 months.

Shehbaz said that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly solutions while enhancing urban mobility in Islamabad.
