PM Shehbaz, Belarus President Lukashenko discuss stronger bilateral cooperation

BISHKEK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Belarus relations and agreed to further expand cooperation in key sectors.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders reviewed bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction with robust cooperation in political, trade, economic, defence and cultural fields.

Recalling President Lukashenko’s historic visit to Pakistan in November 2024 and Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit to Belarus in April 2025, the two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, information technology and vocational training.

The two leaders emphasised the importance of building on the momentum in bilateral relations and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in priority sectors.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz, as the incoming chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State, extended a warm invitation to President Lukashenko to visit Pakistan next year.

Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Belarus and taking bilateral ties to new heights. The meeting took place as leaders and senior officials gathered in Bishkek for the SCO summit, where discussions are also focusing on regional cooperation and the organisation’s future agenda.
