Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review and oversee the implementation of austerity measures aimed at conserving fuel amid regional and domestic energy challenges.
During the briefing, officials outlined plans for closing markets and shopping malls by 8 PM, a step designed to save foreign exchange and reduce petroleum consumption while ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply.
The prime minister urged the public to actively participate in the petrol-saving and austerity campaign. He warned that hoarding of petroleum products is unacceptable and announced that strict action would be taken against those involved.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that part of Pakistan’s electricity production relies on petroleum products, underlining the importance of these conservation measures. Consultations with the Sindh government regarding early market closures are ongoing to facilitate smooth implementation.
