PM Shehbaz, Canadian PM Mark Carney discuss bilateral ties; vow to boost economic cooperation

WEB DESK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with his Canadian counterpart, Prime Minister Mark Carney, on Tuesday to discuss matters of mutual interest and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
During the exchange, the Canadian leader lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in fostering regional stability, specifically highlighting Islamabad’s role in facilitating the recent temporary ceasefire and subsequent negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Regional Peace and Diplomatic Recognition
The Canadian Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s proactive peace initiatives, which have played a pivotal role in de-escalating tensions in the Middle East. Prime Minister Carney noted that Pakistan’s mediation was instrumental in bridging the gap between Washington and Tehran, leading to a constructive dialogue. In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and security, maintaining that stability in the region remains a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy objectives.
Enhancing Bilateral Strategic Partnership
Turning to bilateral affairs, the two leaders expressed a strong desire to expand the scope of cooperation between Pakistan and Canada. They reached a consensus on enhancing partnerships across several key sectors, including agriculture, clean energy, mineral development, and foreign investment. Both heads of government agreed that there is significant untapped potential in their economic relationship that could benefit both nations. To further solidify these ties, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Carney to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
