ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division on Wednesday released the Toshakhana records for the period from March 2023 to December 31, 2024, revealing that a number of top officials received gifts during this period.
According to the list, prominent political figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Arif Alvi, and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto received gifts.
The gifts ranged from books, decoration pieces, souvenirs, and watches to teapots, carpets, shawls, daggers, prayer mats, pens, cups, perfumes, and handkerchiefs.
The record lists dozens of individuals who accepted gifts, including former caretaker prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahsan Cheema, and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
Other notable recipients included Musadik Malik, Rana Sanaullah, Ata Tarar, Shazain Bugti, and Jam Kamal. Asif Zardar’s daughter Asifa Bhutto, Senator Talha Mahmood, Tariq Fatemi, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and former chief justice Qazi Faez Isa also received gifts.
Additionally, senior military and government officials such as Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Brigadier Shehryar Munir Hafeez, Major General Tajdeed Mumtaz, and Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch, and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial were among those listed.
The Cabinet Division confirmed that most of the recipients deposited their gifts in Toshakhana over the past 21 months, with the valuation process for the gifts currently underway.
The Shehbaz government had introduced new Toshakhana rules in March 2023, allowing recipients to retain gifts worth up to $300. Gifts exceeding that value are to remain in Toshakhana’s possession.
Earlier in March 2023, the government had also made public the Toshakhana records from 2002 to March 2023.
