ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Victory Day celebrations, where he extended warm congratulations to the Azerbaijani leadership and people. Field Marshal Asim Munir also participated in the high-level discussions with top Azerbaijani officials.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and energy. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for inviting him to the Victory Day ceremony.
The prime minister also lauded President Aliyev for concluding the historic peace agreement with Armenia, while the Azerbaijani president appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional stability in South Asia.
PM Shehbaz extended an invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which the Azerbaijani leader graciously accepted.
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif departed for a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the Victory Day celebrations at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev.
PM Shehbaz was well received by First Deputy PM of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, and others at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar and others are accompanying the PM on this visit.
What sort of Victory Day?

Victory Day marks Azerbaijan’s triumph in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, celebrating the restoration of territories after decades of occupation — a moment of deep national significance that Pakistan has consistently supported, adding symbolic weight to PM Shehbaz’s participation in the commemorations.

Notably, the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) most advanced JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets had also arrived in Azerbaijan on Oct 19. The country’s top jets had participated in the Indus Shield Alpha bilateral air combat exercise.
