PM Shehbaz directs banks to maximise financing for Apna Ghar Scheme

WEB DESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed government and private banks to enhance financing for the Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme, stressing that providing affordable housing to the common man remains the government’s top priority.
Chairing a review meeting on the progress of the housing initiative on Tuesday, the prime minister called for speeding up work on the scheme and ensuring maximum support from financial institutions to make it successful.
PM Shehbaz said the scheme was launched to help both low- and middle-income families fulfil their dream of owning a home.
He also instructed authorities to formulate a strategy for developing both vertical and horizontal model housing projects under the initiative.
The meeting was informed that banks have so far approved financing worth Rs204 billion for the Apna Ghar Scheme, while loans amounting to Rs27 billion have already been disbursed.
The Ministry of Housing and the State Bank of Pakistan are conducting weekly reviews to monitor progress on the scheme.
Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Housing and Works Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior officials attended the meeting.
