WEB DESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to mobilise all available resources to provide maximum assistance and relief to people in flood-affected areas.

The directive came during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who briefed the prime minister on the country’s weather situation, particularly the risk and impact of flooding amid ongoing monsoon rains.

The prime minister instructed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with relevant provincial authorities and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure relief efforts remain coordinated.

He also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and other modern technologies at the National Emergencies Operation Centre to monitor and respond to emergency situations.

Relief operations to continue in affected regions

The NDMA chairman also briefed the prime minister on relief activities under way in flood-hit areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of affected communities.

Lt Gen Malik said the NDMA, with the support of the federal government, would continue relief operations in flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting came as authorities continue to monitor the impact of monsoon rains and flooding across vulnerable parts of the country.
