ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection, saying the country remains among those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change despite contributing minimally to global emissions.

In a message issued on World Environment Day, the prime minister said Pakistan stands alongside the international community in efforts to safeguard the environment and address growing climate challenges.

“Protecting our environment is a shared global responsibility,” he said, stressing that coordinated international action is essential to tackle the environmental threats facing humanity.

PM Shehbaz pointed to floods, droughts and the rapid melting of glaciers as clear indicators of the worsening effects of climate change.

He said Pakistan continues to face significant human and economic losses as a result of environmental degradation and climate-related disasters.

The PM noted that addressing these challenges requires strong commitment and collective action at the individual, national and global levels.

He said the government is implementing a range of policies aimed at promoting renewable energy, supporting environmentally friendly industries and restoring natural ecosystems.

Calling on citizens to play their part, PM Shehbaz urged the public to adopt more sustainable lifestyles and contribute towards building a greener and more resilient Pakistan.

He added that protecting the environment for future generations is a responsibility shared by all.
