PM Shehbaz holds warm call with Austrian chancellor on US-Iran ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a cordial telephone conversation with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker earlier today, reflecting on their recent meeting in Vienna during February.
During the call, Prime minister Shehbaz welcomed the Chancellor’s strong support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts that helped secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran and facilitated the resumption of negotiations between the two sides.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of all parties honoring the ceasefire, noting that its continuation is crucial for the success of negotiations and the promotion of lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Thursday, strongly condemning the recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
During the call, PM Shehbaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of thousands of lives and extended Pakistan’s condolences to the victims’ families.
He emphasised that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace and stability in the region, noting that the ongoing Iran-US peace negotiations are part of these efforts.
Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with the Saudi Foreign Minister, during which both leaders discussed the changing situation in the region.
The Saudi side expressed continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability. Both leaders highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace.
They also agreed to remain in close contact in the future.
