PM Shehbaz, Iran’s Momeni reaffirm commitment to peace, stability in region

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on Tuesday discussed the recent tensions in the Gulf region, stressing the need for restraint, dialogue and collective efforts to ensure regional peace and stability.
During a meeting in Islamabad, prime minister Shehbaz expressed concern over the evolving situation in the Gulf and urged all parties to avoid actions that could further increase instability in the region.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability, saying Islamabad would continue playing its role as an honest and sincere mediator to facilitate dialogue among concerned parties.
PM Shehbaz emphasised that diplomatic efforts remained essential for resolving regional challenges and reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to contribute towards lasting peace.
Interior minister Momeni thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and conveyed the good wishes of the Iranian leadership.
Momeni appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in facilitating mediation efforts, while also praising Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.
The Iranian minister said Pakistan’s leadership efforts contributed to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for attending the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
