PM Shehbaz orders tightened measures against tax evaders

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level review meeting focused on the efficacy and implementation of the Track and Trace System, signaling robust measures against tax defaulters and evaders.

Prime Minister Sharif issued urgent directives to address tax non-compliance, emphasizing the need to swiftly identify and mitigate impediments to the seamless operation of the Track and Trace System.

He mandated the formation of an inquiry committee tasked with pinpointing liabilities and individuals involved in tax evasion within a stringent timeframe of seven days.

Furthermore, he asked the committee to furnish actionable recommendations for the integration of an automated tax system within manufacturing facilities.

He inquired about the delayed operationalization of the Track and Trace System in the country, stressing the urgency of full integration across pivotal sectors such as tobacco, sugar, cement, and fertilizer industries.

Expanding the ambit of implementation, Prime Minister Sharif advocated for the removal of legal impediments hindering the deployment of the Track and Trace System in key sectors while advocating for its comprehensive adoption on all production lines within cement factories.

He mandated the immediate sealing of factories declining to install the Track and Trace System, emphasizing its pivotal role in curbing fraud and safeguarding against substandard products.

Echoing concerns over economic challenges exacerbated by illicit practices, Prime Minister Sharif condemned the detrimental impact of criminal syndicates on the national exchequer, calling for seeking help from reputable international entities to fortify the Track and Trace System.
