PM Shehbaz Sharif extends Easter greetings, vows to protect minority rights

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday extended greetings to Christians in Pakistan and around the world on the occasion of Easter, expressing hopes for peace, stability and prosperity.

In a message on social media platform X marking the festival, the prime minister conveyed his “heartfelt greetings” to the Christian community, particularly in Pakistan, and wished all citizens well on the occasion.

Sharif said Easter carried a universal message of love, hope and renewal, underscoring values of sacrifice, forgiveness, tolerance and interfaith harmony.

“In today’s challenging global environment, the message of peace inherent in all religions has become ever more significant,” he said.

The prime minister praised the contributions of Pakistan’s Christian community, calling their role in the country’s economic and social development “commendable and invaluable.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the religious, economic and educational rights of all citizens, especially minorities, and ensuring equal opportunities.

Sharif said these commitments were rooted in Islamic teachings, the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and enshrined in the Constitution.

He also stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in building a welfare state, urging citizens to work together for the country’s progress and prosperity.

“Let us renew our pledge to move forward with unity, dedication and sincerity,” he said, concluding with warm Easter wishes.
