PM thanks Sri Lankan president for ‘support during meeting with MDF IMF’


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has thanked Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe for his support during the pm’s meeting with the Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva.

 

“I had the pleasure of speaking to H.E. Ranil Wickremesinghe earlier today to thank him for his support to Pakistan during my meeting with MD IMF. Over the decades, Pakistan & Sri Lanka have been close allies and friends and have stood by each other through thick and thin,” tweeted the PM on Monday.

 

While making a reference to the dengue epidemic in Punjab’s capital Lahore the premier wrote, “I remember how a team of Sri Lankan doctors stayed in Lahore and helped the Punjab government deal with dengue epidemic which was devouring precious human lives in Lahore.”

“The bilateral ties are underpinned by reservoirs of goodwill and good neighbourliness between our two countries. I look forward to working with the President to further build on our friendly relations.”

 

On July 14, PM had a telephonic conversation with Kristalina Georgieva, MD IMF.

The Prime minister conveyed profound gratitude to the Managing Director for her support and assistance in materializing the recently concluded stand-by agreement for $3 billion.
