PMD forecasts widespread monsoon rains across Pakistan through August 5

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a fresh spell of monsoon rains across most parts of the country from July 28 to August 5, warning of heavy downpours, strong winds, and thunderstorms in several regions.

According to the Met Office, heavy rainfall is expected in Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and the Galiyat, raising the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly regions.

Most districts of Punjab are also likely to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot, along with surrounding areas, are expected to witness intermittent showers. At the same time, southern Punjab is predicted to receive the fresh spell between July 31 and August 3.

The Met department also predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in key areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These regions include the upper and central districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Chitral and Kohistan.

Gilgit-Baltistan and surrounding areas are expected to experience prolonged rain, which the locals will see from July 28 to August 6. The northeastern and southern Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Khuzdar, Sibi and Gwadar, are likely to receive showers during the forecast period.

In Sindh, however, a few areas are expected to receive rain from July 31 to August 20, with Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Thatta among the areas likely to be affected.

The weather department has warned that several locations could experience heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms during the monsoon spell. It advised citizens to take precautionary measures, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, landslides and weather-related disruptions.
