PMD warns of windstorms, heavy rain across multiple regions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued an urgent weather advisory on Monday, warning of impending windstorms, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few hours.

According to the official advisory, the severe weather system is expected to develop within the next four to six hours.

The alert has been issued for multiple regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The PMD noted that the atmospheric development will bring strong, gusty winds and thunderstorms, with certain isolated localities likely to experience torrential downpours and hailstorms.

The PMD said the weather system is likely to affect several regions across the country, including parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Balochistan, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the forecast covered Swat, Shangla, Chitral, Buner, Malakand, Kurram, Waziristan, Mansehra, Haripur, Mingora, Abbottabad, Battagram, Kohistan, Dir and surrounding areas.

In Kashmir, the affected areas include Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Garhi Dupatta and adjoining localities.

In Balochistan, the warning has been issued for Barkhan, Musakhel, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah and Kohlu.

In Punjab and adjoining mountainous resorts, the warning has been issued for Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha.

The PMD has issued the weather alert for Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree and the Galliyat region.

The PMD has advised the general public, particularly tourists traveling to northern mountainous terrains and resort areas, to exercise extreme caution, adopt safety measures during the weather activity, and remain updated with the latest weather developments.
