PML-N decides to award Senate ticket to Abid Sher Ali

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to award a Senate ticket to former federal minister Abid Sher Ali for the upcoming by-election.

The decision was approved by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif after consultations.

The Senate seat had fallen vacant following the death of senior party leader and renowned columnist Irfan Siddiqui, after which the party began searching for a suitable candidate.

Sources said Abid Sher Ali has been instructed by the party leadership to submit his nomination papers. He will file his documents tomorrow at the Election Commission office in Lahore for the Senate by-election.

Party leaders say Abid Sher Ali’s parliamentary experience, organisational role, and long-standing association with the party make him a strong candidate for the seat.

The decision is being viewed as an important political development within PML-N circles, while leaders believe that Abid Sher Ali’s entry into the Senate will further strengthen the party’s position in the upper house.
