PML-N issues tickets for 37 AJK constituencies ahead of July 27 polls

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalised and issued party tickets for 37 constituencies of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, setting the stage for a closely contested election scheduled for July 27.

According to a formal notification issued on the recommendations of the PML-N Parliamentary Board, the party has fielded candidates across all major divisions, including Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Haveli, as well as Jammu and Kashmir refugee constituencies based in Pakistan.

The selection process was concluded after a series of high-level meetings of the parliamentary board, overseen by the party’s senior leadership, finalising a mix of veteran politicians, regional power brokers and emerging figures.

Former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan has been awarded the ticket for LA-32 Chikar, a constituency considered his traditional stronghold.

Meanwhile, AJK opposition leader Shah Ghulam Qadir has been fielded from both Upper and Lower Neelum Valley constituencies (LA-25 and LA-26).

Senior PML-N leader Chaudhry Tariq Farooq will contest from LA-07 Bhimber City, while Sardar Abdul Khaliq Wasi has been nominated for the Mirpur division seat.

Malik Muhammad Yusuf will contest from Kotli (LA-10), and Sardar Amir Altaf has retained the Poonch constituency ticket (LA-19). Khawaja Muhammad Aziz has been awarded the ticket for Haveli (LA-17).

For refugee constituencies based in Pakistan, Raja Muhammad Siddique has been fielded from the Jammu-1 seat (LA-39), while Muhammad Ahmed Raza Qadri will contest the Kashmir Valley refugee seat (LA-44).
