Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui passed away on Monday night in Islamabad after a brief illness, party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s son, Imran Siddiqui, also confirmed his father’s passing.
He wrote on his father’s social media account: “Senator Irfan Siddiqui has passed away.”
He added that his heart feels extremely heavy and sorrowful over the loss of his mentor and the embodiment of love, Irfan Siddiqui. He also prayed for the elevation of his father’s soul.
In an interview with Express News, Imran Siddiqui said that Irfan Siddiqui will be laid to rest at the H-11 graveyard.
The president, the prime minister, the interior minister, federal ministers, PML-N leaders, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other political figures have expressed grief and sorrow over Irfan Siddiqui’s death, stating that his passing leaves a significant void.
The senator had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the federal capital, where his health deteriorated before he breathed his last.
In his condolence message, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed profound grief over the senator’s death, extending condolences to his family and acknowledging Siddiqui’s significant contributions to democracy in Pakistan. The president also prayed for the eternal peace of his soul.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed sorrow over the loss, praising Siddiqui’s services in both journalism and politics. “Senator Siddiqui upheld the highest traditions in public service and his contributions will not be forgotten,” said Naqvi, offering prayers for the bereaved family.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui was widely respected across political and journalistic circles for his commitment to democratic values and public service, he said.
