PML-N will vote for Asif Zardari tomorrow: Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that Asif Ali Zardari is their joint candidate for the presidency and her party will vote for him tomorrow.

Addressing a gathering she had hosted for Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, she said that the political parties and their allies have decided to cast their votes for Zardari, marking a hopeful turn in the nation’s governance.

Maryam Nawaz expressed her contentment with the prospect of a political figure taking office at the President’s House, which she believes will be a welcome change from the “constitutional violations that had occurred over the past five years during Dr Arif Alvi’s tenure’.

Maryam Nawaz also acknowledged her good relationship with Asif Ali Zardari and expressed optimism that the tradition of using the presidential office for political gains would end.

She emphasized the president’s role in facilitating governments through constitutional means and prioritizing the country’s interests, areas where the outgoing president, Arif Alvi, has reportedly failed, leading to a loss of public trust.

She said that Bilawal Bhutto stated that he came seeking votes, but even without his request, the PML-N would have supported Zardari.

She stressed that after the election results, all political parties aim to improve the country. Maryam highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among political parties to address the severe issues that no single party can solve alone.

“The collective agenda is to steer the country out of crises, and the public looks to them for leadership,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz also addressed the women of Punjab, asserting her role as their chief minister and expressing her commitment to monitoring the Ramazan relief package personally. She praised Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto as role models, the latter being not only Pakistan’s but also the Islamic world’s first female prime minister. On International Women’s Day, she commended all women for their contributions.
