ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abid Sher Ali has been elected senator unopposed, party sources confirmed on Monday.

According to officials, two candidates Rana Ehsan Afzal and Abdul Jabbar, withdrew their nomination papers, clearing the way for Abid Sher Ali’s uncontested victory. Both individuals had initially submitted their papers for the Senate election but later stepped aside.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is expected to issue a formal notification soon, officially confirming his election.

The Senate seat became vacant following the death of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, prompting the election process.

With the withdrawal of competing candidates, the PML-N has secured the seat without a contest, strengthening its presence in the upper house.
